What’s the coolest part of your job?
News around cyberattacks tends to scare people, especially business leaders who immediately want to ensure that their organization will not be affected. The cool part about my job is that after 13 years, Information Security has finally become an important topic discussed in boardrooms. We get to work with Information Security leaders to help them build confident security strategies that align with business goals and gain them access to their business counterparts.

You founded your company right here in Greater Boston, what advice to you have to someone who is thinking about starting a company?
I would suggest that anyone starting a business should concentrate on what they do best. Establish tangible business goals that align with your overall mission/objectives. If you achieve your goals, you have earned the right to move forward. Repeat and challenge your mission every step of the way.

What is the best piece of career advice you have ever received?
My nine year old gave me great advice this summer by saying I “need to peel my orange and expand my living space”. I am not sure I have completely figured out her meaning, but I do lean on these words often; mostly remembering to challenge myself and broaden my horizons. It has taken 43 years, but I have finally received wisdom that I can call career advice.

How can young professionals expand their networks and increase their impact in their communities?
How can I change the rules of engagement for myself and how do I want to be perceived in my industry? These were my “ah-ha” questions that I asked myself 16 years ago. I wanted to be more relevant while making a positive impact both personally and professionally. One of my answers was to get more involved and join networking groups. Not only did this grow my contact base, but by connecting with business leaders and learning from them, I grew both personally and professionally. Finally, I remind my kids to always have big ears and be themselves. Listening is a key ingredient to having an impact on your career and community.

What reading material is on your nightstand?
Football Scouting Methods by Steve Belichick and Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell

Why did you chose to make professional development a priority at this stage in your career?
I chose to make professional development a priority because I not only wanted to connect with like-minded leaders within the Boston area, but I wanted to learn about their challenges and successes.
